Mob Psycho 100 is my favorite anime in the summer of 2016 in Los Angeles, it was very successful, the creator of One Punch Man ONE turned two against two, so what makes Mob Psycho 100 another anime as good as One Punch Man? A little tricky to say the least... let's figure it out.
Mob Psycho 100 also deals with the stress of young people, feelings of superiority/inferiority, and sees how having power is not what people think it is... which is also becoming a trend nowadays as Saiki Kusuo no Psi -nan in one season. Mob Psycho 100 encapsulates all of this under the word Kageyama Shigeo (aka "Mob"), voiced by Seto Ito, who controls his psychic powers unless he actually explodes them during any number of different emotions, and trying to find meaning in his normal life irony.
The pacing (and comic timing) of Mob Psycho 100 is like a bomb going off, the setting, exposition and character development are all triggered like a long line, Mob Psycho 100 is like a rather tongue-in-cheek anime (where the main character represses his powers) and still has some deep meaning and character development, making this anime more than the typical shounen anime. Mob Psycho 100 isn't so much a deconstruction of superhumans as One Punch Man, but more about growing up and "what youth does to you", for the teen side of things, "strength isn't everything, whether you're a villain or The norm for a superpower."
As for the characters, we have our comedic flaws, from the main characters like Takahiro Sakurai voiced by Takahiro Sakurai as the con man Reigen Ararataka, to the more serious characters like Ritsu voiced by Miyu Irino, Moba's younger brother, and Akio Otsuka dimple became the "spiritual mentor" of the gang, with bad intentions, don't worry he'll be fine. And Teruki Hanazawa, voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, the abusive opponent of Mobu's spiritual power, is getting better again. If there was one character that had the most development it would be Mob and Ritsu because their development is completely opposite in how they use their powers and how they deal with stress. Unfortunately, Mob Psycho 100's supporting cast is either clichéd or supporting, from the devious love Tsubomi voiced by Uki Satake to the purist with bad intentions, the student council president Shinji Kamuro voiced by Kouji Yusa and the telepathic club head Atsumi Tanezaki The Club Take Kurato is as lazy as the rest of the club. In short, as supporting as the secondary cast, they at least a little help to move forward, even if indirectly. The strength of Mob Psycho 100 is most of the main cast (Mob, Reigen, Ritsu, Hanazawa and Dimple) as they take up most of the screen time. Even better, these characters' chemistry, despite their odd disjointedness, actually intertwine in comedic or dramatic ways (or, more accurately, the catalyst for Mob's various "100%" moods). LA's favorite character easily went to Reigen at the end of the anime, which came as a surprise to LA, who had just left Mob for his villainy.
In fact, Studio Bones' animation is a wacky manga-style experiment that LA can't really describe in detail, but the animation is wacky, but visually it stands out for its uniqueness. Where is the animation's bright spot? ...so when Mob uses his psychic powers (once he reaches 100%)...it's absolutely magnificent, not only in Mob fights, the fight scenes in general are MAJESTIC INCREDIBLE, of course it's not common, but at least unique. Los Angeles would say that Mob Psycho 100 was the best animation of the summer of 2016.
Mob Psycho 100 goes into a more serious episode, and indeed LA thinks it makes up for a slightly slower start and more serious episodes about youth by focusing more on serious action, testing Mob and his "friends", it's really a good one compensation for the second half, it doesn't make much sense to see those with superpowers and youngsters in some terrible fights, certainly you can complain in the serious plot Threats created in are easily neutralized by mobs and you will be right... and wrong. As Mob can easily take down the "toughest" enemies without breaking a sweat, but mentally, he's a bit different from the typical "OP protagonist". Overall, the serious storyline is a nice bonus and really just highlights how Mob Psycho 100 ironically has some over-the-top fights left and right and in between, while making the storyline serious. However, this seriously tense storyline quickly returned to the tone of previous episodes after Lingyuan's appearance, and gave a real impression of the "evil" Talon Seventh Division.
Despite this anime having a "main character OP anime" background, yes, it's where the main character knows his power and always tries to suppress it unless it's a last resort, at the very least, Mob Psycho 100 is right That deconstruction of style, where we really want to see the bad guy at 100% and see him go crazy with his powers, makes the "OP anime main protagonist" trap almost non-existent.
In terms of voice acting, you'd think L.A. would take a hit in terms of voice acting as it's pretty lackluster, especially from the mafia himself voiced by Seto Ito, but you get the feeling that he needs to rein in his emotions to get them through the power check. This variety of voice acting is ubiquitous in voice acting, and LA really loves voice acting. LA's favorite voice actor is Takahiro Sakurai as the con artist Reigen, for many reasons.
The ending was unexpected to say the least, LA did not expect a "ending" like One Punch Man, of course there was a very cool "final fight" but the "final result" was unexpected to say the least Unexpectedly, it turned out to be "anti-climate", but Los Angeles didn't care. First, Mob Psycho 100 is different from One Punch Man, and second, it's the expected tone of Mob Psycho 100, not anti-climactic to say the least, but it's a good way to get away from the "serious tone" and still be "Mob Psycho 100". Of course, the finale still has a storyline that foreshadows season two, but for what this finale does, it's very satisfying because it has an "anticlimactic" final battle.
LA already said at the beginning of this review that 100% Psychic is LA's favorite anime for summer 2016, and it really goes to show that if you like One Punch Man, 100% Psychic is also a work that is definitely worth watching, even that this anime is nothing like One Punch Man Man has its own meaning and the breakdown of "superiority and power" and "the pressure of youth and all that" and of course Mob Psycho 100 spooky animations totally unique to the 2016 season.
